FreeBSD 9.0 - Almost here 1013.01 days ago

Wow, time sure moves fast when you have none to spare! FreeBSD 9.0 is almost here and sysupdate.sh has been updated to support it. There were a few major issues with previous version of sysupdate.sh on FreeBSD 9.0 (Beta and RC) which have now been corrected. These issues were all related to dialog.

All other changes are either tweaks or minor updates than anything else.

Been a little on the busy side, so busy that sysupdate.sh missed the FreeBSD 8.1 Release! Things should be back to normal now, and there is a new version of sysupdate.sh with supprt of FreeBSD 8.1, 8.2 and 7.4 (which is current in RC mode, but should be released soon).

This update is a little late as FreeBSD 7.2 has been out for a while now, but I've been rather busy. There are two changes, support for FreeBSD 7.2 and the mergemaster now uses the '-F' switch on systems that support it. More on the sysupdate.sh page.

Version 0.5 of the FreeBSD script, sysupdate.sh, has been released. A number of changes and minor tweaks are in this release. The biggest change has been moving as many questions as possible to the very start of the updating process. This includes downloading the latest version of src/UPDATING before anything else. The other major change has been the move to csup with a fall-back to CVSup.

sysupdate now supports fastest_cvsup 3054.59 days ago

The sysupdate script can use the fastest_cvsup perl script to work-out which cvsup server is the fastest for you. While fastest_cvsup has some issues, most people will find this feature as a nice time saver.

For more information on the main sysupdate.sh page, including my issues with fastest_cvsup.
